T

essa Farmer vit et travaille à Londres. Elle est l’arrière-petite-fille de l’influent écrivain du surnaturel et de l’horreur Arthur Machen. Son œuvre, réalisée à partir de carcasses d’insectes, d’os, de racines de plantes et d’autres matériaux naturels trouvés, comprend des installations et des animations complexes décrivant des batailles boschiennes entre des insectes et de minuscules humanoïdes squelettiques ailés. Assemblées avec l’œil détaillé d’un biologiste, ces fées sinistres évoluent à une vitesse vertigineuse. Leur humanité squelettique corrompue, imposée aux dimensions des insectes, donne une direction délibérément vicieuse à leurs actions. Axées sur la domination du monde, les fées emploient des armes de plus en plus complexes pour dominer et asservir en utilisant des dards d’insectes, des lances en forme d’épines de hérisson et des voies biologiques saisies dans le monde naturel comme le parasitisme. Dans les installations récentes, des essaims d’hyménoptères sont dirigés pour attaquer des proies de plus en plus grosses.
